Stay Safe to Stay Open Plan
Monthly COVID Report

Stay Safe to Stay Open

  • The Stone Bank ‘Stay Safe to Stay Open’ Task Force continues to meet regularly in a collective effort to ask questions, propose actions/recommendations, and ultimately work as a group to keep Stone Bank students safe while learning.
  • The planning process, and local CDC data, continue to point to our main challenge that regardless of what we do, we can not mitigate ALL safety concerns.
  • As a result, we continue to plan for a number of scenarios so we can be proactive and take action steps that will help to slow the spread of all diseases that come through schools.

Three Options for Learning

  • Face-to-Face: Stone Bank will reopen 5 days a week with safety mitigation practices in place for all students.
  • Blended: This approach will provide flexible solutions for face-to-face attendance with virtual supports, and provide flexible solutions for periodic short term closures or for any student who becomes sick or has been quarantined.
  • Virtual: This approach is for those students who may not be able, or wish, to return to a traditional setting. This model will also be available in the event of a closure.

Face to Face Learning

Cleaning/Sanitary Procedures

New cleaning/sanitary procedures:

  • Hand washing
  • Sanitizing
  • Cleaning practices

Mask/Shield Guidelines

Specific mask/shield guidelines are still under review with the School Board, staff and student requirements/recommendations discussions continue with WCHD.

Social Distancing

New policies and procedures to minimize extended contact and maintain social distancing:

  • Establish cohorts/groups of students (a small, consistent group of their peers) and reduce interactions between those groups of students and adults
  • Large group interactions that are common in schools will be redesigned (entry, passing times, recess, lunches, and events)
  • Increased use of barriers and break out space to maintain distance
  • Restructured schedules to lower the amount of close contact throughout the day, currently defined as within 6 feet of someone for more than 15 minutes
  • Redesign of classrooms and use of seating charts to accommodate social distancing between students

This list continues to evolve/grow as we collaborate/learn alongside the CDC and Waukesha County Health Department. We will be required to be flexible and respond to a number of changes these next few weeks/months, and will provide you additional details as they are finalized.

Blended Learning

Under a ‘Blended’ model, students will do a mix of face-to-face and online learning. We realize from feedback that students may be virtual for a few days, a couple weeks, or a few months but that they also might return into our face-to-face school setting.

Virtual Learning

Under a ‘Virtual’ model, we will use tools to align our face-to-face and virtual world as seamlessly as possible. We are seeking to be able to provide the “live” teaching for whole group instruction, breakout small group options, as well as individualized instruction/support.

Staff Are “Live”

Staff can be accessed “live” during our direct instruction times as well as ‘recorded’. The live aspect allows virtual students to participate in small group instruction with peers as well with the teacher to get specific feedback.

Lesson Playback

When students are not able to “attend class” at the regular times, the recorded aspect of the lesson can be reviewed at a time when the students can work through assignments on their own time.

Adhere to Schedule

Students follow the class “schedule” throughout the day. When feasibly possible, this idea allows for greater structure and increases a connection to their staff and students.

Learning Together

Designed to keep kids ‘live’ so that they are ‘learning together’ on the grade-level content. The alignment goal is built for providing consistency in the experiences as well as for when families send their children back to the school for face-to-face instruction.

Expectations of Confirmed Cases

Expectations will be in place for families and staff to report symptoms, illnesses, and positive COVID-19 tests to the District.

  • Confirmed cases will require teamwork between the school, family and the Waukesha County health officials to assist with contact tracing (staff and students) and next steps.
  • Quarantine may be requested (or required) of staff and students. In this event, students and staff will shift into our virtual/blended learning instruction at home until cleared to return to school.
  • We are working closely with the Waukesha County Health Department to develop our protocol and will communicate those expectations once fully finalized.

Community Conversations

Following the Board meeting, Stone Bank will run a series of ‘Community Conversations’ based on our ‘Stay Safe to Stay Open’ plan. The conversations will be similar to our ongoing Superintendent Chats, where we will have a brief overview/presentation and then ample time for an open forum for questions, dialog, comments, and recommendations.
